I have visited Colonnade House in Worthing many times to view exhibited works of artists. It’s located at the end of pedestrianised Warwick Street and the large windows mean that pedestrians have a good view of the works of art on show. I have often entered the gallery on the basis of the works I have seen from the window.
The website for the gallery explains everything you need to know about making an application to exhibit your own work. There are two ground floor spaces; one much larger than the other but both have windows facing the street. The gallery also offers support from their team to set up an exhibition and advice on marketing. The gallery also boasts a professional lighting and hanging system.
I found the Guide for Hirers very helpful. It comprises roughly 30 pages of information from Hire Process; including deposits and insurance to the different ways of installing and invigilation and sales. The Guide covers everything you could possibly need to know and introduces the staff at the gallery with email addresses if you have any further questions not covered by the Guide.
As to the cost of hiring this is also covered by the Guide with the cost of the Main Gallery almost 4 x the cost of the Studio Gallery reflecting the difference in size and frontage. I would be looking for a week only and the rate for this is £250 for the Main Gallery and £90 for the Studio Gallery. Weekly hires start and finish on Monday with the gallery open from Tuesday to Saturday. An additional rate is charged for opening on Sunday of £35.
The fact that the website covers everything you need to know with the addition of staff being available to deal with any other questions makes this gallery very tempting for me. Also perhaps for a first exhibition the size and lower cost of the Studio Gallery would be ideal for me.
