The Exhibition was not in the main College instead it was housed closeby in a couple of barns which had been converted into studio spaces. It was well sign posted so easy to find and on entering an organiser was immediately on hand to assist with the visit. An exhibition booklet was available free of charge and some guidance was given on the recommended route around the exhibition. The second smaller barn which was adjacent to the main exhibition had been used for the sculptures and larger installations.

The first studio room opposite the reception area was a good sized well lit room and the exhibited the work of 3 artists. There was plenty of space around the 3d work in wool in the centre of the room and complementary artists’ works were arranged around the 3 walls of the room.

The second studio space was in the larger section of the barn and the exhibitors’ works had been given ample room so that you could move back to get a good view. The size of the studio and the high roof of the barn which was exposed to show the old beams. This backdrop provided an excellent space to set off the works.

The above photograph illustrates extremely well the good use of space to accommodate this artist’s works which embraced some large paintings and also 3d pieces and sculptures. The partitions were placed at right angles and there is plenty of space between the 3 paintings. The smaller partition is well placed so that the 3 smaller 3d pieces can be compared with the other works by the artist. There is plenty of room to stand back and look at all the works. The low white block in the centre of this artist’s space is used for the 3 sculptures. As can be seen there is plenty of space for the viewer to walk around and to step back and embrace all the works.

The above work is shown to its best advantage in the middle of this section of the studio space. Again there is plenty of room to walk around the work.

These works by other students are displayed in a way that reminds of a display of exhibits in a museum. The display cases were a good height and were an excellent way to display the works. The back partition highlighted the neutral colours of the works, mainly drawings.

In the adjacent barn the largest works requiring a great deal of floor space were displayed. It was quite cold and I thought it a little dark there but this did not seem to detract from one’s curiosity at the various sculptures on display.
